Functions of DIET Goalpara

1. In-service programmes, Field interaction & Innovation Co-ordination

In-service education of teachers is necessary to keep them abreast of the changes taking place in their professional environment and to develop their skill and attitudes in the light and changing role. Latest approaches and methodologies should be followed in the training. This branch should also have interaction with field to identify problems and prescribes solutions. Information about worthwhile experiences, innovations and success stories etc. should obtained. Action researches and experimentation needs to be conducted to tackle the specific problems. These field experienced should be used in different in-service education programmes.

Function of IFIC
  • Planning and co-ordination of in-service education.
  • Identify teachers for training, prepare annual calendar of training in and outside DIET.
  • Acts as the nodal branch for organizing in-service programmes for all categories of staff in elementary education, resource programme using distance, distance-cum teaching mode.
  • Evaluate and monitor the quality and efficiency of work programme in and outside DIET.
  • Serve as a reference/resource center.
  • Serve as nodal branch for all action research.
  • Facilitate dissemination of information and co-ordination of activities.

2. Curriculum Material Development and Evaluation (CMDE)

It is the centre to provide resource support in the development of locally relevant curriculum and educational evaluation of school, Adult education of the district level. It will carry out the following functions.

Function of CMDE
  • To adapt and develop the curricular units according to local needs.
  • To develop the techniques and guidelines for continuous and comprehensive evaluation.
  • To help DRU in developing the locally relevant materials.
  • To undertake testing on sample basis to assess the learner achievements.
  • To help educational authorities and school in implementing reliable system of valid learner evaluation.
  • To conduct work shop for developing various materials
  • To conduct in-service programmes related to CMDE
  • To provide CMDE related inputs into all other programmes of DIET

3. Planning and management (P & M)

This unit will maintain an appropriate data base for the district regarding UEE. In this regard some studies on enrolment, retentions and regularity of attendance including SC/ST children may be conducted for framing policies. It also provides technical assistance in the areas, school complexes and instructional areas etc. Besides this, it acts as nodal branch to select all Board of Education, involvement in basis education particularly by District Board of Education, VEC and community leaders etc.

Function of P & M
  • Prepare data base for educational planning within the district and monitor facilities in UEE/NLM.
  • Conduct policy oriented research in the areas of enrolment, retention, attendance interventions for community perception and participation, development of norms on elementary school children and AE/NFE.
  • Provide assistance to educational authorities in school mapping, micro planning.
  • Assists educational officers for micro level planning about their on functions conducting training for HMs, AEOs, BPOs etc.
  • Conduct performance improvement programme for IDCs, FTMs and peons of educational institutions.
  • Conduct studies and researches in administration and management in the field of education.

4. District Resource Unit (DRU)

This branch assists educational authorities in planning and coordinating training programmes for adult, non-formal and continuing education personnel throughout the district. The instructional and training materials relating to adult, non-formal and continuing education will be developed by this branch. The necessary evaluation technique and tools will also be prepared for judging the effectiveness of the programme.

Function of DRU
  • To assist educational authorities and district literacy mission in planning and coordinating training programmes for AE/NFE personnel's, continuing educational centers, preraks and equilancy volunteers.
  • To serve as a nodal branch for organizing programmes of induction training and continuing education for instructors and supervisors/preraks of AE/NFE to be organized in the DIET.
  • To evaluate and monitor the quality and efficacy of training programmes for AE/NFE personnel help in and outside the DIET.
  • To maintain a database on all AE/NFE personnels who undergo training at the institute and organize follow up activities pursuant to such training.
  • To undertake field interaction (including extension) work vis--vis the AE/NFE projects and centers in the districts, and to act as the referral unit for aaccademic problems thrown up by the field in the areas of AE/NFE, CEC and equilency programmes.
  • To help the district panchayath and AE/NFE authorities, in organizing, media supports for the AE/NFE programmes.
  • Preparing and publishing support materials and guidelines for CEC and equilency programmes.
  • Conducting studies in connection with various activities under CEC and equilency programmes.

5. Work Experience (WE)

It is the centre to provide resource support in the development of locally relevant curriculum and educational evaluation of school, Adult education of the district level. It will carry out the following functions.

6. Educational Technology (ET)

Educational Technology faculty places a vital role in effective teaching and learning. Initially this department was entrusted with the development of low cost teaching aids. But recently, considering the development in ICT, the faculty now provides training teachers and prospective teachers in using presentations, video clippings, internet, LCD project etc. in IT enable class rooms. Focus of this branch is to ensure that ET reaches out to the most distant areas to develop in collaboration with concerned staff of DIET and other resource persons, simple, effective and low cost teaching aids for various subjects related to school education.

Function of ET faculties
  • To conduct appropriate training programmes for teachers and teacher Educators in the areas of ET.
  • To provide ET related inputs to all other activities of DIET.
  • Organizing workshop for developing IT materials.
  • To liase with nearby radio station for arranging educational broadcasts suitable for school children /AE learners, teachers, instructors, etc
  • To maintain the following,
    • All AV equipment of DIET
    • Computer lab
    • Display areas
    • A library of educational video/audio cassettes, etc.
    • Digital documentation.
    • Educational website of DIET.

7. Pre-Service Teachers Education (PSTE)

DIET is organizing two year teacher programmes for around 40 students. The minimum academic qualification for admission is higher secondary certificate. The curriculum approved by NCET is followed to give training.

Function of PSTE
  • Organization of pre-service teacher education for qualified applicants.
  • Promotion of child centered education, preparation of learning aids and conducting action research.
  • Conduct tryout in areas like multi grade/peer group teaching etc. for schools.
  • Providing guiding service in schools/NFE/AE centers.
  • Provide academic support for other teacher training institutes in the district.
